Our Story From Concept to Craft

Effortless grilling with fire is part of our story. The Caveman Grill was designed for pure flavour, durability, and the thrill of cooking over real wood fire.

From Duck Fat to Flames – Where our story Began

Over thirty years ago, the idea for The Caveman Grill was born during countless visits to the southwest of France, land of duck and fire. Dishes like foie gras, confit de canard, and magret de canard left a lasting impression. At home, we tried to recreate those rich flavors, but standard barbecues couldn’t handle the intense fat rendering of duck breast. Grilling became a challenge:
manually holding a grill grate over a regular charcoal barbecue, balancing between heat, flare-ups, and that perfect crispy fat. It was tough, sweaty work, but always worth it.

The Birth of an Idea

Years later, once again in the same region and this time with my childhood friend we followed the same ritual: fire, duck, and determination. After that trip, the idea struck: why not design a grill built specifically for wood-fired cooking with easy temperature control? A quick online search revealed that height-adjustable grills did exist under the generic name Santa Maria Grill, but what I could find was not quite what I had in mind. I wanted something powerful yet graceful, honest, and adjustable in height. Without electronics, plastic parts, or unnecessary complexity.

The Design Behind The Caveman Grill

At the kitchen table, the first sketches took shape. The grill needed to withstand open wood fire, be easy to move around the garden, simple to clean, and fully demountable for professional use. It had to look solid, feel robust, and be built from durable materials like corten and stainless steel. Not long after, our first prototype was ready: the Classic. To this day, its design has barely changed: functional, elegant, and built to last.

The Start of The Caveman Grill

When my old friend and his business partner, both being marketeers, immediately joined the adventure, the brand was born: The Caveman Grill. Today, the lineup includes six models, both freestanding and built-in, along with several accessories. All are designed around the same principle: cooking over real wood fire with a height-adjustable grill grate.

The Taste of Fire

We believe cooking over open wood fire creates unmatched flavour and brings back the thrill and simplicity of real grilling. You don’t need a massive fire setup like Francis Mallmann in Patagonia, although it is very nice of course! With The Caveman Grill, you bring that same primal experience straight to your backyard or professional kitchen. Real fire. Ready to go.
